Lonna Calhoun
Lonna, the Founder and Director of Progressive Fitness Training Program, has served as the Director of ATA since 1991. She is well recognized in the industry for her leadership and organizational skills, dedication to quality education, ethical standards and entrepreneurial expertise. She is best appreciated by her students and peers for her warm and supportive nature. With over twenty years in health club ownership, she has been a strong advocate of industry education throughout her career.
Lonna is recognized internationally as the creator of the judging standards and criteria for the sport of competitive aerobics. Her leadership in Sportaerobics has largely contributed to it's acceptance by FIG, The Federation of International Gymnastic as it's third official discipline along with men's/women's gymnastics, and rhythmic gymnastics. The IOC, International Olympic Committee as accepted Sportaerobics as a demonstration sport at the 2000 Olympic games. This IOC acceptance is the first step towards becoming an Olympic sport. Her contribution to the development of Sportaerobics spans over eleven years serving in the capacity of Head Judge for the World Aerobic Championships (WAC) (1989-1997), Technical Chairperson for the ANAC Technical Committee (1989-97), author of the NAC Judges Training Manual and Director of Education for the NAC Worldwide Fitness Education Program. She has presented in over 25 countries, and currently sits on the Board of USA Gymnastics. Lonna has designed and implemented four custom software programs including the current ATA database and the scoring and judge's analysis program utilized during the internationally televised World Aerobic Championships. Other industry achievements include written publications in SHAPE magazine, IDEA Today, Peak Performance, and Fitness West. In 1996 Lonna was congratulated by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) for being one of only five fitness professionals to achieve triple "gold" certifications. Lonna is a frequent IDEA convention presenter, 1996 Who's Who of American Business Executives, Featured presenter, ChampCamp (1990-1995), Reebok C.O.R.P.S. Member, 1994 City Of Hope, Executive Committee Fund Raiser, and awarded the 1997 "Commanders Club", from Disabled American Veterans, "In recognition of outstanding devotion and generosity".
Her industry certifications include triple ACE "gold" certifications in Group Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer and Weight Management and Lifestyle, ACSM Aerobic Leader and Fitness Instructor, AFAA Primary and Step.

Sam Calhoun
Sam has over 35 years of experience in the fitness industry, starting his career as one of the now famous "Muscle Beach" originals, he became "America's Most Muscular Man", 1959. He turned his love for fitness into the business of health club ownership for over twenty years. Sam sat on the original "PT Exam Item Writing Committee" for ACE. The consummate personal trainer, he is currently Director of Results Fitness Systems, training for personal trainers and a partner in Progressive Fitness. Sam has been an inspiration to his students because of his dynamic presentation skills, academic depth, his history in club ownership, and his Bodybuilding titles. In 1980 Sam labeled his health clubs "custom-houses" offering "closed-end-training". Sam is the research and development director for Progressive Fitness and a key member of the PF faculty.
His industry certifications include: American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Exercise Specialist, Personal Trainer, Advanced level, Graded Exercise Test Technologist, and Health and Fitness Instructor, American Council on Exercise (ACE) triple "Gold", Group Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer, and Weight Management and Lifestyle Consultant, National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Personal Trainer, National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), Personal Trainer, Advanced Level.
James J. Cecchini, D.D.S.,Ph.D: Specializes in human behaviors, communication, fitness,
exercise, and stress management. He was Principle Investigator for three grants from the
State of California on smoking where he developed educational curriculum and material. He
has taught psychology courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels along with
seminars throughout the United States on health and wellness through exercise. With a doctorate
in Psychology and a lifelong interest in health and wellness, his educational focus is to
assist health professionals in developing communicative expertise.
Lisa Garrity: Over twenty years experience as a Fitness Professional; currently
the master trainer and education specialist for Fitness Express, Exercise Science degree
and Masters degree candidate in Educational Technology at San Diego State University, triple
ACE certified.
Jim Rodino: is the co-director of DOUBLE TROUBLE FITNESS and is a group fitness
instructor for several major NYC health clubs. He has presented workshops and
master classes nationally. He is a faculty member of PROGRESSIVE FITNESS and contributing
author of many Progressive Fitness publications including,
"HANDBOOK FOR GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTORS." Jim is a Master Practical Trainer of
Group Fitness Instructors for The American Council on Exercise as well as a
Continuing Education Specialist. He is a continuing Education provider for
AFAA. Certifications include ACE Group Fitness Instricutor, AFAA Primary and
Step REEBOK. |
